A Weekend Update

Status Quo
I haven’t updated in a bit because not much is going on.  Tiredness is my main side effect.  I’ve had minor fevers everynow and then, but nothing over 100F.  I would say I’m a bit slower mentally but nothing too bad.  I’ve also been told I’m a bit cranky, so I apologize if you notice.  I’ve been to the pool a few times to watch the kids from the deck.  I don’t usually stay too long, but it’s still fun to watch them and hear “Daddy Daddy, watch this!”

Getting My Hub Rubbed
Getting my hub rubbed is very important.  If it doesn’t happen regularly, I could have medical complications and end up in the ER.  It is also important that alcohol is involved.  Getting my hub rubbed is key in the process to make sure my blood is still flowing and things aren’t blocked.  I get my hub rubbed by different people.  Home care does it every other day and Lindsey does it on the days when home care isn’t here.  I had my hub rubbed in clinic on Wednesday, but I was a little disappointed.  The nurse only rubbed for a few seconds, which is dangerous in my book.  Granted you don’t want to have to rub the hub forever, but there is a certain amount of time that is required.  I told Lindsey that the next time we go to clinic, I’m going to rub my hub myself before I see the nurse so I can be sure it is done correctly.  So let this be a lesson to all of you.  If you have a PICC line, be sure they use alcohol swabs and rub the hub of the line for 30 seconds.  Otherwise you may introduce bacteria into the blood stream and end up in the ER.

And the Powerball Numbers Are:
I’m getting a CBC every other day with my blood draws.  Overall the numbers are trending up, which is good.  Granted my numbers trended up after the first round of chemo, so we aren’t out of the woods yet.

7/27: WBC- 1.5, Hemoglobin 8.5, Platelets 102
7/29: WBC- 1.6, Hemoglobin 9.4, Platelets 125
7/31: WBC- 1.6, Hemoglobin 9.0, Platelets 146

Duck Dynasty Prayer
Thank you God for continued health and limited side effects.  Thank you for care at home.  Thank you for good sleep at night and the energy that I do have during the day.  Thank you for trips to the pool and cuddles on the couch.  Most of all, thank you for another day.

  2. So thankful you are continuing to rest at home and staying out of the hospital! Also thankful you get to watch the kids at the pool – I know they love it there and I’m sure they especially love that they can show Daddy all of their tricks:-) We are continuing to pray for remission and cure. I’ve got 6/6/2020 on my calendar!😉

  3. Good to hear from you Rob. You beat me out on the platelets…mine still hovering at 109. None of us ask to have the experiences and the trials we have in life. But we have the assurance that God is at our side and that He will be our strength and our comfort. Our Heavenly Father is holding you in His arms now and as we all pray for you He is blessing each of us and those who read your blog. I am thankful that God blessed me with a nephew that is such reflection of His word and His ways. You are a valiant soldier of God and you have an army of prayer warriors that are there with you in spirit and in will. Keep up the good fight.

I have been praying to St Peregrine who is the patron saint of cancer patients.

St. Peregrine was born in 1260 at Forlì, Italy to an affluent family. He lived a comfortable life as a youth, and politically opposed the papacy. After he experienced the forgiveness of St. Philip Benizi, he changed his life and joined the Servite order. He was ordained a priest, and later returned to his home to establish a Servite community. There he was widely known for his preaching, penances, and counsel in the confessional. He was cured of cancer, after he received a vision of Christ on the cross reaching out His hand to touch his impaired limb. He died in 1345 and was canonized in 1726.

    Heavenly Father;
We pray that Your will be done. We know that You love all of your children. Let us take this opportunity to become closer to You and to reflect You in our everyday lives. Let us love one another, give us a mind to know you, a heart that seeks your ways, wisdom to find you in all situations, and conduct that is pleasing to you. Watch over Rob as he endures this second round of chemo. Protect him from additional harm to his body. Protect him from anything that could cause an infection. Protect him from fevers, nausea, and bone pain. Give him restful sleep when he needs to re-energize. And grant him remission so that he may live his life out for You and be there for his wife and children. Bless Lindsey, who is also a valiant soldier of yours, and the children who are too young to really understand what is going on. That they may continue to give Rob comfort and love everyday.

We praise You, We adore You, We love You with all our heart, our mind, and our soul. AMEN

    Love to all

  4. HI Rob and Lindsey:
I borrowed this from beliefnet and found it made me think of you:

Thank you God for giving me health, for the food you provide, for the awareness you have awaken in me…Thank you for the energy that feeds my soul, the sun that warms our bodies and the air that fills our lungs… Because of you I believe in the good without the bad and the ugly, because of you I am learning to love and accept myself, because of you I believe in believing. My source, stay connected to me today and always, for I need you in order to fullfil my spiritual tasks…God, show me how to love myself, to be able to love others. Help me become the type of person that I would like to befriend, help me forgive myself and forgive others… God, make me a channel of your energy and help me understand.
