A Good Morning
The morning started off with the normal routine of getting people ready.  We dropped the girls off at pre-school and Grandma Jane took Tucker.  With much anticipation, Lindsey and I then headed to Simon Cancer Center.

We arrived at our appointed time, waited a bit and had labs drawn.  We went back to the waiting room and then the tech announced “Dr. Cripe is running 45 minutes behind.”  So we waited some more.  Eventually we got back to the BMA room….and waited some more.  Finally Dr. Cripe was able to come in and perform the BMA.  After all was said and done, Lindsey and I went to the coffee shop and then came back up to the consult room to wait on results.

We were in the same consult room that I was in when I found out I had relapsed.  Back then, on June 3rd, I was feverishly typing on my laptop.  Arranging coverage at work, notifying people of the relapse and preparing to update my caring bridge.  This time was more relaxed, albeit with more anticipation.  We were waiting on the news that would determine the next course of action.  And then the door opened…

It was the nurse.  Just checking to see if Dr. Cripe had come in yet.  Of course he hadn’t, but we knew it would be soon.  Lindsey put her phone down and grabbed my arm.  The moment becoming more real for both of us.  We waited a few more minutes and finally the door opened.  Before it closed, Dr. Cripe uttered the words we wanted to hear, “You are in complete remission.”

On to SCT
It would be nice if this was it.  If remission meant that treatments were over.  That I could go back to work.  That I could do the normal family things.  But what it means is I’m on to SCT.  The transplant team will be contacted today and things will go in motion.  I should be hearing soon what the plan is and meeting with the transplant doc, Dr. Nelson.  I will still be admitted on Wednesday to start the 2nd cycle of Blinatumomab.  Stay tuned for more information and I’ll of course be posting the #cancercation recap at some point.  Until then, thank you God for this remission!  And leukemia, you can kiss my ass.

  9. Woo-hoo! Remission Rob…some of the sweetest words I have ever heard!!! Been waiting anxiously for these results, and I am over the moon!! Keep kicking ass, Rob! I know BMT won’t be easy, but I have total faith that you WILL kick cancer’s ass for good!

  12. I don’t post much, but I do follow you and say my prayers for you. I am so glad to hear you are in remission and I wish you all the luck with the SCT, as its course is not an easy one either. May the positive vibes continue! Virtual hug from the eastside of Indy.

  18. What terrific news! Full health is all of a sudden so much closer. Now that the bad guys have been busted, can’t wait to put the SCT good guys in charge. God bless.

  24. Awesome news – love to read about your life and this battle – You really have a great head on your shoulders in dealing with “life” as you know it right now. Sounds like you are moving on to the next steps – and good luck and enjoy this wonderful news .

  25. I remember several years ago when people dropped food off at your house while I was there. I couldn’t believe all the people supporting you, praying for you, and caring for you. Now, again, I’m reading so many posts of people supporting you and praying for you in such a caring way. You, my son, truly are an amazing young man. You and wonderful Lindsey and your family have impacted so many lives through this journey. Today, we are all thanking God “to the moon and back” with such gratitude for your remission. I think of God’s gift of all your family and friends I think of God’s gift of your doctors and nurses. I think of God’s gift of the recent approval last year of Blinatumomab. I think of all the writing you have given us, writing from your heart and soul, to share with us the thoughts, fears, and feelings you have on your mind. Thank you Rob for your strength, your love of family, your motivation to persevere, and THANK YOU GOD for this awesome news! Love you! Mom

  29. We all were waiting with baited breath today. We are so thrilled for you and Lindsey and of course the children. The SCT hopefully will bring closure to this ordeal for a very, very long time. We all hate the word CANCER but with God’s good will we will walk the walk and come out the other end with a smile. You do know that we are local and if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

Your faith, your reliance on an Almighty God, and your complete surrender to His will have brought you through this step of the journey. Through Christ you are victorious.
